Our brief was to make a promo package, consisting of at teaser trailer, full trailer, film poster, and social media pages for a film. The title of our film is 'Off The Leash'. Off The Leash is a Horror/ Thriller film about how Covid-19 struck the UK, which as a result forced the government to take serious action by putting the nation into lockdown.
Synopses of our film:
Many people are fed up with the intensive lockdown regulations, stating that it is a restriction of their freedom and a way for the government to take ultimate control of the country. As a result, there has been a group of people committing violent crimes to show their disrespect to the government. This group of people are wearing animal masks to hide their identity but also as a method of intimidation, because there has been many news reports highlighting this group as a threat. The animal masks are also significant because this group feel the government are treating the population as animals because they feel they are being kept captive. Therefore, they say “if the government are going to treat us like animals, we will act like animals”. The lockdown regulations allow for each person to be outside for an hour each day. After having seen the news on the reports of people wearing animal masks causing havoc, four teenage boys set out looking for the group of people wearing animal masks. Boredom and typical impulsive teenage boy behaviour is the reasoning behind their decision to go into the woods.
Camerawork:
One part of the film which I set up was at 01:01 - the scene of all four characters walking through the frame. I came up with this idea, so I wanted to take control of the position of the camera. As we filmed on Matt Heyns' iPhone 12 PRO, featuring 2 12MP wide, 7 element, 26mm focal length features, we were able to capture effective shots at a high quality. I didn't have a tripod at the time of filming so I had to improvise with the nature around us. I used a tree stump, next to the filming location and had to continually adjust the position of the camera as it kept on falling. Through repetitively filming the same shot, I was able to create a shot which I was satisfied with and the group were satisfied with as well. The device allows us to film in 4K resolution which gives the film a crisp, high quality picture, giving the audience the best experience when viewing our trailer.
Editing:
The device we edited on was Matt Heyns' MacBook PRO and used the Final Cut Pro X application in order to edit and piece together our production. As a collective group, we surrounded the laptop in order to input our ideas for the trailer. Personally I wanted to make an edit at 00:34. When we were editing, I wanted to make the clip shorter in order to make the event more frightening and intense. I handed over my idea to Matt, so that he could make my desired edits after I gave him careful instructions. At the end of this, we could make the edits and as a group we collectively agreed that we were satisfied with the results, with no qualms.
Lighting:
Most of our trailer was filmed in the forest which meant we filmed during the day to give us the maximum amount natural lighting. For other scenes in our trailer, we used the darkroom in school to capture close up shots of the animal masks. I took charge of the lights, within the darkroom, as I had previous experience of using them. This meant, when on set, I could adjust between the white and red lighting when needed. This meant the process was swift and effective. The red lighting was key for the shots, as it created suspense and tension and made the animal masks more frightening.
Directing:
I took charge of certain scenes, including some of the darkroom and adventure scenes through the forest. I took charge of some of these scenes because I had imagined a scene in my head, prior to filming. I wanted to try and capture this scene I had imagined as I felt it would suit the trailer well. I directed some of the opening scenes, and explained to the group my ideas and how I wanted them to be filmed. At times, I would direct scenes that I was involved in, which meant I needed to give the chosen camera man the correct information prior to filming. In the end, the scenes which I directed came out successful and were key scenes in our trailer.
Social Media Page - Tik Tok:
I developed a Tik Tok page '@offtheleashmovie'. Through this page, viewers can find further information about our trailer, including certain behind the scenes footage on the set. It is a page where viewers can also find footage of our star actors, which the wouldn't be able to see in our trailer. Through hashtags, viewers can also connect with each other with the hashtag I created - #OffTheLeash

FILM POSTER: you provide detailed evidence of relevant genre research into film posters of a similar type and your finished result shows confident application of poster genre codes and conventions (including all the institutional requirements). You offer evidence of the planning of your design. Your film poster effectively conveys the film's theme with its very striking central image of one of the masked protestors as the centre of visual interest. The highly saturated colour choices are powerfully striking and effective in arresting the audience's attention, with strong colour contrasts and black denoting after-dark secrecy. The protagonist meets the audience's eyes directly in a challenging way. The poster is finished to a very high technical standard and observes all genre conventions. The poster attracted the favourable attention of professionals in the Open Day display this week.
ReplyDeleteMINOR TASK: TikTok social media
ReplyDeleteExcellent work. You have populated your TikTok feed with a range of engaging visuals that catch the attention of your target audience and offer interactive experiences, an easy-to-use interface, merchandise, posters and video clips. You have based your work on relevant genre research which you present well.
