ReplyDeleteThoughtful and insightful analysis of visual codes of this sophisticated stylish poster set in urban USA with a handsome, suited protagonist. You note how the canted angle connotes the ‘mind-bending’ film content in which time is manipulated and its scifi/action/thriller genre, as does the intriguing double image of the protagonist; you comment on the way in which he walks confidently away from the explosion.
To improve: the title font is more than glossy, it is embossed, futuristic.
Mention that the canted angle is used across all the posters for the film release, making it a brand quality and contributing to the marketing cohesiveness.

ReplyDeleteYou note poster genre conventions like star talent placed at the top of the poster (with the pre-eminence of DiCaprio), the prominent title placement, the billing block (not box) and social media links, and the way in which the famous director’s name is leveraged to sell his new film. In your analysis of the striking layout, such as the mise-en-scene, you seem to understand that the intriguing ‘mind-boggling’ image is made up of two perspectives, one a low-angle shot and the other a bird’s eye view shot, combined to seem as one.
To improve: mention the tagline.
POSTER CREED
ReplyDeleteYou note the striking, powerful composition of the centre of visual interest in the CREED poster and the intimate, fatherly connection between boxer and coach; you analyse the facial expressions, outfits and postures well. You could comment on the use of strong downlighting that emphasises the physicality of the boxer’s bare arms and powerful physique. How do the strip lights above focus the eye on the boxer?
To improve: use the term tagline rather than ‘quote’ for ‘Your legacy is more than a name’; explain the reference to Thanksgiving. Instead of the term ‘bland’ in reference to the use of colour, ‘monochrome, severe, masculine’ make a more precise description.
